The Picasso Museum library is a center dedicated to supporting the study and dissemination of the life and work of Pablo Picasso. It offers a documentary fund about the artist and, by extension, the artistic context of his entire life trajectory, which covers practically the entire 20th century.
The library is a public and free service. It is essential to make an appointment to access the service.
Types of documents
The library's documentary collection is very varied. Of particular note are the Picasso exhibition catalogs (from 1920 to the present day), the collection of monographs on the artist and bibliophile editions (without original prints) and the collection of avant-garde Catalan magazines, consisiting of more than 80 titles from the first decades of the 20th century where Picasso's presence is constant.
The museum library also has a special collection of books illustrated by Picasso, made up, to a large extent, of the personal collection that Jaume Sabartés donated to the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. It is a collection of artist books with original engravings and lithographs and with dedications by Picasso or other prominent 20th century artist-friends. This collection is considered reserve material and is not freely accessible; twenty-one books from this collection can be consulted in digital format in the library.
The library also has a historical collection of press about Picasso and up-to-date information on the exhibitions that are presented around the world with the presence of the artist's work.
