Presentation Exhibition Chronicle of the exhibition Artworks of the Collection

The opposition between interior or studio landscapes and outdoor landscapes is the common thread of this exhibition, that traces the connections Picasso established between the descriptions of his surroundings and his personal cosmos.

Landscape was a common theme explored by Picasso in his early years although, as he intensified his contact with the avant-garde movements, the description of domestic spaces would gradually acquire greater prominence than his outdoor views. The interior landscape became an alter ego of exterior scenes. Picasso made his ateliers into his own private landscapes; his works occupied these spaces and they enable us to trace his stylistic development in iconographic terms.

The guiding thread of the exhibition is the comparison between interior-studio landscape and exterior landscape, which reveals the parallels between his outdoor descriptions and his own personal cosmos.
