Presentation Exhibition Chronicle of the exhibition Catalogue

An exceptional set of works that Picasso made in his studio in the castle of Antibes, enhanced by works from the Picasso museums in Malaga and Barcelona, constitutes a wonderful survey of Picasso's artistic career. The selection is also a superb expression of the fascination that the Mediterranean held for Picasso.

The exhibition, like the usual arrangement of the works in the permanent collection of the Musée Picasso in Antibes, follows a chronological order that runs from 1894 to 1972. On this occasion, however, it comprises three hundred and eighty-three works (seventy-three more than usual) and is structured in several areas. The group of works on display captures the essence of Picasso's career, focusing on his relationship with Barcelona. Reminders of his childhood, of his arrival in the city, and of the artistic circles he frequented coexist with works that call forth his first trip to Paris and his Blue Period. Furthermore, thanks to the loans from other collections, viewers have the possibility of contemplating a number of his Gósol compositions and Cubist works not often seen in the Museu Picasso in Barcelona.
