Presentation Exhibition Chronicle of the exhibition Artworks of the Collection Catalogue

This exhibition examines the 'bond of printmaking' that united four artists in the same family: Picasso, J. Fín, Vilató and Xavier. They all made prints an essential part of their oeuvre, shared the same interest in exploring different techniques and the same devotion to art.

In 1939, J. Fín and Vilató were among the political refugees who fled Spain and ended up on the beach at Argelès after the devastation of the Spanish Civil War. Picasso, their uncle, got them out of the concentration camp at Argelès and managed to relocate them to Paris, where they would spend a few months. During their stay, Picasso took them to Roger Lacourière's workshop, where the two young artists discovered the intaglio printing technique they would continue to explore during the rest of their careers. This taste for prints, the happy times and the technical knowhow of J. Fín and Vilató was transmitted and shared with Xavier, Vilató's son, who represented the third generation of this family of artists.
