Circus on Sunday at the Picasso
Information
Days:
8 May - 26 June 2011
Picasso and the Circus, Circus at the Picasso
Pablo Picasso, with his tremendous vitality, was powerfully attracted to the circus, a spectacle with age-old roots in which strength, joy, skill, dynamism, colour and music combine to create moments of beauty and emotion that enter into us through our senses and can leave deep impressions on the soul. Brilliantly reflected throughout his long career as an artist, Picasso's love of the circus first began in Barcelona, where he frequented the Tivoli on c/ Caspe and the Alegria on Plaça Catalunya, and continued in Paris with his regular visits to the avant-garde Cirque Medrano, where he befriended the clowns Grock and Seiffert, among others.
The Circus on Sunday at the Picasso season presents a selection of outstanding shows in which traditional routines and techniques are given a harmoniously contemporary take by young artists from Catalonia, the UK, Italy, France, Sweden and Denmark.
