Presentation Exhibition Chronicle of the exhibition Artworks of the Collection Catalogue

A selection of bullfighting scenes by Picasso, ranging from childhood works to his late matadors of the seventies. The show is completed with a documentary section made up of hitherto unseen photographs, correspondence, posters, reviews and other objects from the artist's personal collection.

The works Picasso dedicated to the theme of bullfighting on display in this exhibition span his entire production, from his early childhood depictions to his matadors of the seventies. The selection includes drawings and oil  paintings from his years as an apprentice, the bright pastels made in the first years of the twentieth century, the exceptional Gored Horse of 1917, the canvases and drawings of the twenties and thirties preceded by the Guernica, the oils, etchings and ceramics of the fifties and La Tauromaquia, and the drawings and prints of the sixties.

The exhibition also comprises an important and hitherto unknown set of documents consisting of photographs of Picasso on the beaches at Arles and Nimes, his correspondence with famous bullfighters, his private collection of bullfighting posters, reviews, programmes and admission tickets, and a number of videos of corridas and of Picasso himself in various bullrings.
