The Russian Avant-Garde (1905-1925) in the Collections of Russian Museums
The exhibition presents a group of works by over thirty painters that evoke the main stylistic traits of Russian art movements and provide a broad survey of various avant-garde trends.
The works by over thirty painters on display in this show enable viewers to appreciate the styles explored by the artists of the Russian avant-garde – Constructivism, Cubo-Futurism, Neo-Primitivism, Rayonism and Suprematism – revealing their importance and influence.
Up until a short time before the exhibition, international audiences had only had access to the art in the museums and galleries of Moscow and Saint Petersburg. This exhibition, therefore, is an opportunity to see works housed in smaller art centres in different cities around the country. One of the attractions of the show, characterised by the unquestionable artistic quality of the pieces on display, is perhaps the fact that it reveals a well-kept secret: the Russian heritage that, due to historical and environmental circumstances, had remained inaccessible — forgotten by some and unknown to many.
