Androula Michael on «Picasso Cyprus»
Descripció (Vídeo o Àudio)
For Androula Michael, curator of the exhibition «Picasso Cyprus. Encounters with Mediterranean Ceramics», the richness of Picasso’s ceramic creations is best understood when viewed in dialogue with the ancient cultures of the Mediterranean, and especially with works from Cyprus.
The exhibition opens with a striking visual relationship between «Visage de femme» and a Cypriot composite vase, two works that share a common formal conception and set the tone for an exhibition that, rather than drawing comparisons or seeking direct influences, reveals the resonances, shared forms and visual imaginaries that connect Cypriot antiquities with the work of Pablo Picasso, forging a link between the past and modernity.
