Eftychia Zachariou-Kaila on «Picasso Cyprus»
Descripció (Vídeo o Àudio)
Although Picasso never travelled to Cyprus, he was captivated by the forms, symbols and spirit of Cypriot antiquities, which he encountered through museums and specialised publications. Hybrid figures, fantastical animals, decorative motifs and a remarkable expressive freedom appear both in the island’s ancient art and in many of the artist’s ceramic works.
Eftychia Zachariou-Kaila invites us to understand that this relationship goes far beyond formal influence: it is an encounter between Mediterranean imaginaries, between past and modernity, between tradition and reinvention.
