From the Rose Period to the Ochre Paintings from Gósol
An exhibition dedicated to Picasso's works of the years 1905 and 1906, a period halfway between the intellectual atmosphere of Paris and the archaism of Gósol.
This show focuses on a period that marked a high point in Western art. Picasso's production of 1905 and 1906 was characterised by two opposing influences, that of Parisian intellectual circles and that of the archaism of Gósol, a small intact village only accessible by a few hours' donkey ride. Following a spell in Holland in the summer of 1905, Picasso produced insightful works inspired by his surroundings that captured the essence of his subjects.
The exhibition painstakingly traces the long European path Picasso travelled before his periode nègre or Black Period and Cubism.
