Toguo Picasso
2025
In September 2022, Cameroonian artist Barthélémy Toguo spent a week intervening in the Museum Picasso’s galleries, painting a series of canvases as well as a large ten-meter-long mural. After keenly analyzing Picasso’s work, he created a rich and eclectic dialogue between the two. This fascinating exchange culminates around the Las Meninas series: Toguo follows the path that Picasso himself traced in 1956 when he reinterpreted Velázquez’s masterpiece. At the Museu Picasso, Toguo worked alongside the discreet presence of photographer Txema Salvans, who meticulously documented the artist’s creative process as he developed his works within the museum’s galleries. This catalog is the culmination of that entire process.
