How We See Ourselves / How They See Us
Series of performances about the role and representation of the female figure in art
Although it seems that Picasso and Degas never met, they shared various aesthetic concerns. Among their common interests is that of the female figure, particularly the woman in private, dressing her hair or bathing, represented in a private space which, in being made public, brings into question classic elements associated with femininity: grace, decency, innocence, virginity, the role of the woman as mother/muse and so on.
This performance series invites four artists to examine these concerns from a contemporary point of view, exploring them from a feminine perspective and from what could be called a second generation feminism: a reinterpretation of the questioning of the role of feminine beauty that was done by female artists from the 1970s onward, examined by artists that collect evidence but also adapt it to its social and vital moment.
