The Escola El Turó, located in the district of Nou Barris, and the Museu Picasso have been working together since the 2018-19 academic year thanks to the Escoles Tàndem project, promoted by the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera with the collaboration of the Department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The four institutions work together in the pedagogical project and were also together in the 2020-21 academic year in their third year of collaboration.
In the Tandem programme, educational centres that are especially in need of a pedagogical renovation project collaborate intensely for three years with a leading cultural or scientific institution to make the educational centre unique and provide innovations that help improve it.
With this project at the Escola El Turó, the Department of Education of the Museum has become part of the school team's daily routine.
The school has begun to integrate into its pedagogical tools the Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) used at the Museu Picasso, to exercise the students' verbal, communicative and emotional skills based on works of art.
This integration of the VTS methodology has been worked on within a much broader framework of pedagogical rethinking of the centre, with several renovation actions led by the teaching staff.
In the context of the Tandem project, in the first year we worked on the cohesion and teamwork of the teaching staff, based on reflection and self-evaluation, with a course organised by the Museu Picasso.
During the second year of the Tandem, in addition to various innovations that the school implemented in the areas of mathematics, reading, etc., training was carried out in project work with art as a cross-cutting tool, which has a direct correspondence with the work in environments that has been carried out since the initial cycle.
During the third year, work will be done on the implementation of new methodological approaches and emotional management through the arts, with art permeating the school environment in all areas.
The involvement of all the teams from the participating entities has made possible an exciting renovation task that has a direct impact on improving the learning process of the school children and that aims to integrate the entire educational community.
