50 years after Franco’s death: the reception of Picasso during the Franco regime
2026
On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Franco’s death, the Museu Picasso Barcelona organized an expanded congress devoted to examining an essential yet often overlooked aspect of the impact of Francoism: the reception and treatment of Pablo Picasso’s work during the dictatorship. This publication brings together the papers and discussions that shaped the congress and highlights the complexity of this relationship, marked by censorship and the artist’s self-imposed exile, but also by the interest, recognition, and support that Catalan civil society maintained for Picasso and his work.
