The Museu Picasso de Barcelona archive –in its conception as a set of archival funds and documents– brings together an essential nucleus of archives on the artist with the optimum level of organisation, following international archival criteria that guarantee their conservation and accessibility. In this scenario –and always thinking of working in continuity with the Museum's art collection, where works of art and documents form a whole and mutually activate each other to keep the heritage alive and generate new knowledge– we are committed to giving the archive a new look, making a conceptual reflection that facilitates making it available to the scientific community while respecting its living and mutating identity. It is a proposal that aims to give prominence to the skeleton and the historicity of the Archive. It aspires to make the researcher the leading actor and make them transit through the Archive using its representation to activate it.
For this reason, one of the strategic projects the Museu is developing is to give entity to an artistic archival practice that adapts international archival tools in art archives, to create a cosmology of Picasso's archives and consolidate the exercise of exhibiting archives.
